Woodhill Forest is an active commercial forest. 
Be aware of foresty activity, and stay clear of harvesting operations at all times!

Weather

Woodhill Forest and the South Head peninsular often have milder, drier conditions than other areas of Auckland, but like all Auckland can be subject to isolated weather events
 

High Wind Danger!

 
Generally there is a prevailing westerly or sou'westerly wind driving in from the sea.
 
High winds from the East can cause significant damage to trees. 
 
Do not enter the forest, particularly the coastal strip of trees during high winds!
 
Trees can be toppled and branches thrown to the ground in gusty or high wind conditions.Be aware of the special hazards in this area:
  • Muriwai Beach / Te Oneone Rangitira has extremely strong surf, and high tides! Do not swim, except at the Surf Club patrolled area at Muriwai.
  • High winds can cause significant damage to trees.  Do not enter the forest, particularly the coastal strip of trees during high winds! Trees can be toppled and branches thrown to the ground in gusty or high wind conditions.
  • FIRE: The forest may be closed during extreme fire season. No smoking or fires are permitted at any time.

NO SMOKING NO FIRES OF ANY KIND are permitted in the any part of the forest AT ANY TIME.

  • Trail emergency marker locations
  • Trail distance markers
  • Beach Entrance markers if you are on the beach at the Muriwai Regional Park end (south)
